My father, John
H. Engle, has been interested in the history of the Engle family
since Morris Engle published The History of the Engle Family
in America, 1754-1927. Daddy grew up near Marietta, Lancaster
County, PA, only a few miles from Ulrich Engel's 1754 homestead.
For years, he has worked on maintaining the family cemetery, has
lead tours of historic Engle family sites, and in the 1970's and
1980's worked with a committee to gather information for an update
of the "Engle Book." My brother, Eugene K. Engle, has
done extensive research on the land records, wills, and other public
records on the Engle family. My own efforts have been devoted primarily
to the Swiss origins of the Engel/Engle family, and in compiling
genealogical information about the Engle family in a genealogy database.
In 1993, I published a translation
of a letter from Ulrich Engel to his brother in Switzerland.
My goals for the Engle
Family Web site are to provide a place for descendants of Ulrich
and Anna Engel to share information, stories, and photographs, as
well as facilitate gathering additional material for a new "Engle
Book". Teresa and Don Engle have been a tremendous help, especially
by contacting descendants of the Kansas pioneer John M. Engle (my
great-grandfather Eli M. Engle's brother).
I am delighted that Mary
Lynn Richardson (my second cousin) has agreed to be our webmaster.
Family web sites offer an exciting new way to publish information.
I hope you will enjoy our efforts, and that this will stimulate
you to share your knowledge with other members of the Engle family.
